Glamping 2013: New Year, new you...

Posted: Friday 4th January 2013
It is only the 4th of January and we are already seeing blog's and articles popping up everywhere with regard to mental wellbeing, stress and healthy living in 2013. I guess the festive season really took it out of us eh?!

This is a great little article written by Judith Woods for the Telegraph ‘Nows the moment for mindfulness’ Article

Everybody get’s a little stressed out now and again especially at work, so this is a great technique to learn, and you can apply it to any situation. Even the gang at Tom’s Eco Lodge can get a little frazzled at times, however we are very lucky to have a breathtaking view on our doorstep, and our secret to getting through the day is slurping down a nice hot cup of tea (say 20??) and taking a moment to appreciate our surroundings.

There has been a huge focus lately on healthy holidays. I guess this is down to the fact that we cram so much into our day to day’s that when we do get time to relax, we really should make sure we are doing all that we can to be healthy with it. This doesn’t have to be difficult or stressful though, especially if you go on a unique Glamping holiday – It is all there for you, all you have to do is to step outside your accommodation, soak up the sun, breath in the fresh air and let your stresses and strains melt away.

Tom’s top tips for wellbeing in 2013:

1. LISTS! Like Richard Branson http://www.virgin.com/richard-branson/blog/top-10-tips-for-making-lists we too make lists! You can’t beat ticking off a task, and looking back at the end of the day to see just how much you have achieved.

2. A moment of clarity – Step away from whatever you are doing and go outside, or look out of a window. When you see that the world is going buy, it helps you to clear your mind, and de-frazzle yourself a little. Life goes on, no matter what you do.

3. Come dine with me – Have friends over for dinner more often. This doesn’t need to be stressful; ‘bring a dish’ is fine. Not only will you be saving money, you will also be learning new culinary skills and catching up with old friends. A sense of community can be lost in this modern day and age and there is something very rewarding from spending ‘quality time’ with your nearest and dearest – And we don’t mean in front of the TV!

4. Set yourself realistic goals – ‘Im going to quit smoking tomorrow’ is nearly impossible, and has a tendency to backfire. Seek out help (from a doctor or hypnotherapist) and set yourself a goal or two “I am going to cut down to only 2 a day”, “only at the weekends”, “I will quit by…”

5. Embrace your grass roots – What tastes better than home grown veg?...someone else’s home grown veg? If you do not have a garden, or a big enough windowsill but would still like to partake in ‘The Good Life’ why not look around for local home grown produce, or sign up to a farm grown ‘vegetable box’ that can be delivered to your door. Great for you, great for your community, and great for the environment.

Tom’s Eco Lodge inspirational quotes of the year:

(not that we are promoting drinking to aid your problems but…)
Tom – “Whatever ail’s you, the ale will never fail you!”
Kimmi – “The grass is greener where you water it”

Happy New Year folks
